Ms. Hilde Grimstad

Hilde Grimstad is professor in general practice and behavioral medicine at the Department of General Practice and Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, NTNU, Trondheim, Norway. She is head of PLUS (Support for pedagogy, learning and teaching) at the faculty.

Grimstad was educated as a medical doctor at the University of Trondheim (later NTNU) in1987. She defended her thesis in women’s health in 2000 at NTNU, and has been working at NTNU since 1992, from 2016 as professor.

Grimstad was head of Department of Public Health and General Practice in 2005–2009 and Vice Dean for education at the Faculty of Medicine in 2009–2017.

Her research activities are in women’s health, teaching doctor-patient communication skills and medical education. As a medical doctor she has been working as a general practitioner.

Grimstad has broad educational experience, and has been teaching medical students, and other health care students and personnel in personnel-patient communications skills and a wide range of other medical subjects, using different teaching methods, especially student active and student-centered methods. Current teaching activities are mainly in faculty development.

In 2003 she was together with a college awarded the Faculty of Medicine’s teaching award for their work with the Doctor-Patient course.

From 2018 she is leading the program group for medical education in the national RETHOS-project, National Curriculum Regulations for Norwegian Health and Welfare Education. In 2018-19 she was leading the Ministries of Education and Research’s expert group, investigating if Norway should educate more doctors and increase the number of medical schools in Norway.

She has more than 14 years of experience as a board member and deputy leader of the board for two different health trusts in Norway.
